Salt and Light #26

Back in the Studio, Mayfair, and More Glitter Balls!

Back at Saltwell Studios, Cambridge!

This week I’ve been recording a brand new single for the Coronation, to be released in May. We also recorded a video on the same day. It was a fantastic feeling being back in this studio with producer and recording engineer, Chris Pepper. We last recorded here in 2020, two weeks before lockdown, where I made my vinyl for ‘Rings of Saturn’ and ‘Anam Cara.’ I can’t wait to share my new song with you, and the inspiration behind it.

Media Showcase in Mayfair!

It was a pleasure to be invited to the record launch of Geoffrey Moore’s new album at Hush restaurant in Mayfair last night, as a tribute to his late father, James Bond actor, Roger Moore. His new album ‘Photograph’ is an uplifting pop/disco/funk collection of songs with heartfelt lyrics about unity, love, and loss with guitar solos from Nile Rodgers. Roger Moore’s granddaughter Mia Moore sang backing vocals and it was a wonderful family affair, with special guest hypnotist Paul McKenna. It was hosted by record company ‘Right Recordings.’ There’s nothing like hopping off the tube and popping into Claridge’s to use the posh ladies powder room for a quick change before the event! I also got butler service at the cloakroom. And everywhere there were glitter balls!

Royal Dignitaries at Shrewsbury Abbey

The concert in aid of Crane Counselling Service for children was a special occasion last month, with school choirs from all over Shropshire. Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner, sat in the front pew of the beautiful Abbey, and came to talk to us after our performance, sharing her recent Royal responsibilities and experiences in her new post. She was very chatty and when her phone rang she said casually, ‘Excuse me, this might be the King.’ I was accompanied by pianist and co-writer Martin Riley, who kindly gave his time to support the event. I sang a Disney Medley of songs from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Mary Poppins, and one of my own songs, ‘Song be My Soul’. The event was hosted by the Governor of HMP Featherstone, who is now Chairman of this charity. It was a huge success and raised money for 50 children across the county in need of counselling support.

Next Concert April 22nd in Yarpole!

It’s only a couple of weeks until my concert in St Leonard’s Church, Yarpole. Rehearsals are underway, and expect a special guest musician or two!

Last time I was at the café in this church I found a book called ‘Change Your Life in 7 days’ by the hypnotist Paul McKenna. When I met him in person at the media launch last night in Mayfair, I told him I had read his book, and asked him when my life would change. He replied, “It probably already has, you just don’t know when the seven days start!”

’Songs from the Shows’ at Ludlow Assembly Rooms!

“One-time West End leading lady Charlotte Page, and classic folk singer-songwriter Deborah Rose, bring Broadway to Ludlow!“

Tickets will be on sale very soon for this concert, held on Friday June 23rd 2023, as part of the annual Fringe Festival!

More details soon. Save the date!

RECOMMENDATION

This is a moving and humbling interview with Charlie Mackesy, the Oscar-winning author of the book ‘The Boy, the Mole, The Fox and The Horse.’ Thanks to Sally McCamley for sending it to me, inspiring me, and many others I forwarded it to. I was inspired to buy the book for my mother as a Mother’s Day gift.
